LOVE & pieces — 五福具全 白年同心
화성시역사박물관 기획전 «사물에 깃든 마음»에 참여했습니다. 이 전시는 옛사람들이 일상 속 사물에 담은 바람과 감정을 발견하고, 사물의 진정한 가치와 의미를 되새기는 과정에 집중했습니다. 보이어의 이화영은 전통 혼례에서 사용되던 ‘족두리’를 재해석해 카드 세트를 디자인했습니다. 족두리의 꽃과 나비, 새 장식에 담긴 기쁨과 행복의 바람을 작은 카드로 표현하여, 오늘날에도 이어지는 조화와 평안의 마음을 전하고자 했습니다. 🦋
We participated in the special exhibition The Heart Within Objects at the Hwaseong City Museum of History. The exhibition explores the hopes and emotions once embedded in everyday objects, inviting viewers to rediscover their deeper meanings and values. For this project, Lee Hwayoung reinterpreted the jokduri — a traditional bridal coronet — into a set of cards. The piece draws inspiration from the joyful wishes symbolized by the flowers, butterflies, and birds often used to decorate the jokduri, expressing these sentiments through delicate images that continue to convey harmony and peace in the present day. 🦋
작업 노트:
새로운 결합을 알리는 혼례식에서 신부는 작은 구슬로 화려하게 수놓아진 족두리를 썼다. 족두리에는 꽃과 나비, 새가 장식되어 있는데 두 사람의 앞날에 기쁨과 행복이 가득하길 바라는 옛 사람들의 마음이 드러난다. 이를 카드로 제작하여, 앞면에는 종이로 만든 장식을 꽂아 직접 완성할 수 있게 하고, 뒷면에는 “오복구전(五福具全)”과 “백년동심(白年同心)” 같은 길상문을 넣었다. 오늘날에도 서로 다른 두 사람의 만남을 기뻐하고 조화와 평안을 기원하는 마음은 과거와 다르지 않을 것이다. 구슬로 수놓은 꽃 장식을 매만지며 보내는 이와 받는 이 모두의 마음에 소박한 기쁨이 피어나길 바란다.
Designer’s Note:
In a traditional Korean wedding, the bride would wear a jokduri — a coronet lavishly embroidered with tiny beads — symbolizing a new union. Decorated with motifs of flowers, butterflies, and birds, the jokduri embodied the heartfelt wishes of ancestors for joy and happiness in the couple’s life ahead. Inspired by this tradition, Lee Hwayoung created a set of cards. Each card features a paper ornament on the front that can be completed by hand, while the back includes auspicious phrases such as Obok-gujeon (the five blessings fulfilled) and Baeknyeon-dongsim (a hundred years with one heart). Even today, the desire to celebrate the union of two individuals and to wish them harmony and peace remains unchanged. May the simple act of touching a beaded flower — whether by the sender or the receiver — stir a quiet joy in the heart.
