#StopAsianHate

2021년 3월 16일, 미국 조지아주 애틀랜타에서 로버트 애런 롱이 총기를 난사해 마사지숍과 스파에서 일하던 8명이 숨지고 1명이 다쳤습니다. 희생자 8명 가운데 6명은 아시아인이었습니다. 코로나19 팬데믹 시기 아시아인을 겨냥한 혐오 범죄가 잇따르자, 그 증오에 맞서기 위해 “Stop Asian Hate” 해시태그 운동이 확산되었습니다. 이에 한국의 그래픽 디자이너들도 뜻을 모아, 아시아인 혐오를 넘어 모든 인종 혐오에 맞서는 포스터를 제작해 전시했습니다. 보이어는 인간의 다양한 눈을 그린 포스터로, 아시아인을 향한 혐오 제스처 중 하나인 ‘찢어진 눈’에 유쾌하게 저항하고자 했습니다. 👁️

On March 16, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia, Robert Aaron Long opened fire at massage parlors and spas, killing eight people and injuring one. Six of the eight victims were Asian. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a wave of hate crimes targeting Asians prompted the spread of the “Stop Asian Hate” hashtag movement in defiance of such prejudice. In solidarity, Korean graphic designers created and exhibited posters opposing not only anti-Asian hate but all forms of racial discrimination. BOWYER contributed a poster depicting a variety of human eyes, playfully resisting one of the anti-Asian hate gestures — the “slanted eyes.” 👁️
