of ASTERUM』을 디자인했습니다. 데뷔부터 현재까지 공개된 플레이브의 세계관과 비주얼 아트를 총망라한 이번 아카이브북에서, 보이어는 책의 전체적인 비주얼 컨셉을 구상하고 흩어져 있던 정보와 콘텐츠를 하나의 완결된 서사로 시각화하는 역할을 담당했습니다. 특히 지금까지 플레이브의 여정을 ‘꿈을 현실로 만들어가는 이야기’로 해석하고, 실제와 환상이 겹쳐지며 드러나는 새로운 세계—플레이브 코스모스의 거대한 서사를 몰입감 있게 보여주는 것을 주요 디자인 목표로 삼았습니다.&nbsp; &nbsp; 이에 가상의 세계관이 마치 현실에 존재하는 듯한 인상을 주기 위해, 대중 과학 교양서에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 내지 레이아웃을 차용하여 사실과 가상의 경계를 흐렸습니다. 동시에 이 세계가 아주 오래전부터 존재했던 것 같은 느낌을 주기 위해 고서의 장식적인 레이아웃과 세밀한 도판 요소를 표지와 내지 일러스트에 활용해, 세계관에 서사적 사실감과 신비로운 환상성을 불어넣었습니다. 팬들의 사랑으로 현실화된 플레이브의 꿈과 세계가 이 책을 통해 보다 선명한 모습으로 팬들에게 다시 다가가는 의미 있는 계기가 되길 바랍니다. 🌌💫 We designed the archive book PLAVE: The Children of ASTERUM for the virtual boy group PLAVE. The book encompasses PLAVE’s universe and visual art from debut to the present; our role was to develop its overall visual concept and weave scattered content into a single cohesive narrative. We interpreted PLAVE’s journey as ‘a story of turning dreams into reality,’ and set out to immersively reveal the vast narrative of the PLAVE Cosmos—a new world that emerges where reality and fantasy overlap.&nbsp; &nbsp; To give this virtual universe a tangible presence, we borrowed layout conventions from popular science books, blurring the boundary between fact and fiction. At the same time, we drew on the decorative layouts and intricate plate illustrations of antique books across the cover and inside pages, imbuing the world with narrative realism and mystical fantasy. Collaborating closely with Gubo Architects, who led the building-wide renovation, BOWYER directed the signage system and interior color planning to visualize the hub’s identity as an active startup ecosystem.&nbsp; &nbsp; The signage system is inspired by the ‘fast track’—the quickest path for a startup to scale and reach orbit. Treating the physical space as a track that accelerates growth, we designed a directional ‘Pointer Type’ and a modular ‘Lane Type’ that organically coordinates spatial information. The festival celebrates 60 years of Asian moving image practices, highlighting experimental works that build independent worlds outside mainstream art frameworks.&nbsp; &nbsp; We interpreted the festival’s theme, ‘Space,’ as a multidimensional overlap and connection. Noting that space is perceived differently depending on the ‘gaze of the subject,’ we translated these exploring perspectives into small graphic symbols at the center. While taking various forms, they share a circular rotation, embodying the dynamism of avant-garde cinema and its spirit of independent inquiry. The background graphics transform natural landscapes—the cosmos, sea, and fields—into unreal flat planes. This year, BOWYER developed a dedicated visual motif exclusively for Kumho Young Artist — further solidifying the brand identity the program has built since 2004, and establishing a clear visual distinction from the museum's other exhibitions.&nbsp; &nbsp; The identity takes shape as a diagonal graphic symbol that progressively expands the program's initials, K, Y, A, and has been applied consistently across various promotional materials to build a systematic visual language. This year marks the centennial of Hunmaengjeongeum, the first Hangeul braille system established by Park Du-seong in 1926. Following the inclusive spirit of a century ago, we designed a calendar where illustrations and letters are composed of delicate dots. While the visually impaired trace the braille to feel the flow of days and seasons, the sighted engage in a new experience of "visually perceiving tactile rhythms." Recognizing that many visually impaired individuals retain residual vision, we used vibrant fluorescent spot colors to fully share the joy of imagery. Beginning from his childhood experience of perceiving the images on snack packaging as if they were postcards from overseas destinations, the project upscales and reimagines the degraded imagery from these wrappers, giving renewed form to faded fantasies and, in the process, revealing a longing for unfamiliar worlds. 🍪👨🏻‍🍳작업 노트: «쿠키 판타지 Cookie Fantasy»는 어린 시절 한국 ‘옛날 과자’ 포장지에 담겨 있던 이국적 풍경 이미지를 출발점으로, 기억과 환상, 소비의 관계를 되묻는 작업이다. 서양식 건축과 목가적 전원, 바로크풍 명화의 파편들로 채워졌던 과자 패키지는 작가에게 한 장의 관광 엽서이자 낯선 세계를 향한 작은 동경의 매개였다. 그러나 시간이 흐르며 인쇄면이 바래고 풍경은 그 지시 대상을 잃은 채 희미한 환상의 잔상으로만 남았고, 흐릿해지는 시각과 도리어 또렷해지는 감정 사이의 간극이 이 프로젝트의 출발점이 되었다. 전시는 열화된 패키지 이미지를 수집해 이미지 생성 AI로 재창작함으로써, 사라져 가던 환상을 다시 구체적 형상으로 끌어올린다. 결국 환상이 형체를 갖게 되는 순간 그것이 한 점의 그림인지 또 하나의 상품인지를 관객에게 되묻는다. Designer’s Note: Cookie Fantasy is a project that takes as its starting point the exotic landscape imagery once printed on the wrappers of old Korean confectionery, returning to questions about the relationships between memory, fantasy, and consumption. Filled with fragments of Western architecture, pastoral countryside scenes, and Baroque-style paintings, these snack packages served the artist as both tourist postcards and small vessels of yearning for distant, unfamiliar worlds. As time passed, however, the printed surfaces faded, and the landscapes—severed from their referents—lingered only as the dim afterimage of a fantasy. The gap between this blurring vision and the emotions that, paradoxically, grew sharper became the point of departure for this project. By collecting these deteriorated package images and recreating them through image-generating AI, the artist draws what had been a vanishing fantasy back into concrete form. The Forum serves as a platform where museums dedicated to script and language from around the world gather to discuss shared challenges. In 2025, the Forum focuses on the rapidly approaching super-aging society, exploring the significance of literacy and the evolving role of museums. BOWYER translated the Forum’s themes — “super-aging society” and “literacy” — into a poster that makes these issues visually legible. Aligning with the festival's theme that visual art connects everyone, we transformed the ultimate values BOWYER pursues in design and life into a symbolic image. The work embodies the wisdom of non-duality — knowing that "this" and "that" are not separate. It visualizes the principle of interconnection: that "this" exists because "that" exists. We captured the mind seeking the "Middle Way" (中) in the form of a fluttering flag. 🎯 작업 노트: 삶과 이미지를 통해 우리가 드러내고자 하는 것은 둘이 아님을 아는 도리. 나와 너, 안과 밖, 빛과 어둠, 오늘과 내일, 꿈과 현실, 물질과 에너지, 몸과 정신 — 둘이 아님. For graphic designers rooted in the two-dimensional realm, shaping a 3D space was an exciting challenge. While ‘Gubo Architects’ handled the architectural remodeling, BOWYER designed the interior color system inspired by the Yin-Yang and Five Elements theory. Resonating with the surrounding landscape of Inwangsan, Bugaksan, and Bukhansan, these diverse interior colors contrast with the monochromatic exterior to embody the cyclical principles of the universe.
