보이어는 서울에 위치한 🔗이화영과 🔗황상준이 운영하는 그래픽디자인 스튜디오입니다. 이화영은 서울대학교와 동대학원에서 그래픽디자인을, 황상준은 서울대학교와 골드스미스대학에서 디자인을 공부했습니다. 둘은 2014년부터 스튜디오 플랏의 멤버로 활동하다 2016년 보이어를 설립했습니다. 보이어는 문화 예술 기관과 영리 혹은 비영리 단체를 위한 다양한 규모의 디자인 프로젝트를 다루며, 때로는 재미있는 자체 프로젝트를 진행합니다. 언어로는 온전히 전할 수 없는 내용을 이미지로 시각화하고 그것을 일관된 방식으로 매체에 적용해 사용자의 의미있는 경험을 유도하는 비주얼 아이덴티티 디자인을 주 업무로 삼고 있으며 종이나 스크린 형태의 평면을 통해 표현하는데 익숙합니다. 하지만 정해진 형식이나 매체를 벗어난 다양한 시도 또한 꾸준히 하고 있습니다. 여러 프로젝트를 통해 디자인, 예술, 산업, 평면, 입체, 텍스트, 이미지와 같은 서로 다른 층위의 경계를 자유롭게 넘나들고 그 사이에서 능숙하게 유희하는 것이 우리의 목표입니다.
이화영은 동양대학교, 서울시립대학교, 이화여자대학교에서 그래픽디자인을 가르친 바 있으며 황상준은 성신여자대학교 산업디자인과 조교수로 재직 중입니다.
BOWYER is a graphic design studio based in Seoul, South Korea, founded in 2016 by Hwayoung Lee and Sangjoon Hwang. Hwayoung Lee studied graphic design at Seoul National University and its graduate school, while Sangjoon Hwang studied design at Seoul National University and Goldsmiths, University of London. Both were members of Studio Plat from 2014 to 2016 before establishing BOWYER. The studio collaborates with cultural and artistic institutions, both for-profit and non-profit organizations, and occasionally undertakes self-initiated projects. They specialize in visual identity design, creating meaningful user experiences by visualizing content that defies verbal expression and consistently applying it across various media. Proficient in designing for traditional surfaces like paper or screens, they also venture into new formats and media. Their objective is to fluidly transcend the barriers between different realms – design, art, industry, flatness, three-dimensionality, text, and image – deftly navigating the interplay among them.
